1.Don’t purchase a smartphone or upgrade your current model to become higher in the social hierarchy.

I get it. We’ve been conditioned to believe a new edition of a gadget is necessary and cool. However, the costs and environmental impact to produce smartphones is traumatic. In other words- don’t buy a smartphone if you can’t list 5 positive reasons for owning one.

2.Protect and take pride in your smartphone.

The impact of losing or severely damaging my smartphone would cause an inconvenience in my life. To protect myself from this I use a protective case and have mobile phone insurance. You should be protecting your smartphone from damage and misuse. There are many protective cases and gadget insurance companies that serve this purpose. So you have no excuse!

3.Keep in mind the environmental impact to produce a single smartphone.

Deforestation, slave labour and packaging pollution to name a few. Be green and only buy a smartphone if it will serve a functional purpose daily. The eco-friendly solution is to reduce the number of smartphones you own by looking after them.

4.Discarding or selling your unwanted smartphone the right way

You should always try to sell or give away your smartphone rather than put in your wheelie bin and leave it for landfill. If someone will benefit from using your unwanted smartphone, then this is reducing the chance of another smartphone being created. If your smartphone is broken, give the smartphone to a mobile phone recycle company, so it’s components and materials are not wasted
